Like a seed, praying together has grown into a way of life for us. It’s become our culture! At first, just a few friends wanted to “make prayer a part of their culture,” and today those prayers have matured and multiplied over time through promises realized and other people devoted to Jesus. In fact, we didn’t even have a name for all this, but we’ve grown into one that encompasses so many wonderful shared values and experiences that contributed to who we are in Christ today. Years later, the very mention of “prayer culture” is special to so many — not because it’s “the best” but —because it’s something we share, and, by Jesus’ grace, it’s still going and still growing…
Fast forward, we are now an intercessory community that has grown out of our home-base at Texas Bible Institute, and continues to grow into our name. As a praying culture, we want to plant ourselves in prayer to see Christ reproduced in culture. From Friday, April 5, to Saturday, April 6, we’re gathering again for just 24 hours to sow ourselves in Jesus’ Presence through prayer and worship and grow Jesus’ Promises with preaching/teaching/training for our many places of influence.
This year is going to be unique and needed, because we’re reaching out far and wide to the TBI Alumni who feel connected with the values and best-practices they picked up with us at prayerculture.tv along the way. Instead of only giving PC to our current TBI school, we’re also giving this moment away as an event to the bigger TBI base. Whether Prayer Culture was around during your year or not, the essence and emphasis has always been present. This is both our gift and call to action. Let’s each return to our first love again and again, because those seeds are still going and still growing in those who obediently believe.
Please read this all the way with an open heart…
That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. 20 As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord! 21 Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” 22 Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” [John 20:19-23 NLT]
After scattering, Jesus appears to His disciples alive! In a moment of utter shock, He essentially restores them and re-commissions them on a level none of them saw coming. Everything they believed about Him was not only affirmed, but (in a way) upgraded into an on-going, ever-growing reality, which we are right in the middle of as well!
Our heartbeat is to re-commit to Jesus, re-connect with each other and then to re-commission each other back into our cultures with a fresh focus to — you guessed it — keep going and keep growing (John 15:16). We’ll be praying and worshiping together as well as making moments for team training and impartation. Plus, the real sweetness comes from the “unplanned" moments with the Lord and each other.
While the pace will feel very relaxed, the purpose is still very focused. We’re giving of ourselves to Jesus, planting ourselves in His Presence and growing His Promises through our faith-filled partnership. This is literally one of our favorite times of the year! I feel many TBI Alumni have kept going and kept growing since they graduated, and this may be a next step for you to take.
On behalf of the entire TBI team, we’re convinced that the next New involves each and all of us. Let’s believe freshly for miracles and movements. It all starts with this most valuable, life-giving seed — our Jesus. He put us together for many seasons and reasons. This is simply another invitation to affirm that what He started is still underway. There are no more classes to sign-up for per se, but this Gospel of the Kingdom continues to capture our soul-diving passions and call us into an ever-expanding purpose. That’s what we’re all signing up for! (In fact, we’ve all learned this whole thing is soooo organic anyway — simply planting ourselves in prayer, staying rooted relationally with the Lord and those He gives, and bearing fruit that remains.) That’s what we want for everyone, for you!
This is not a reunion to relive what Jesus did. This is an intercessory summit to re-commit, re-connect, and re-commission our hearts into what Jesus is doing next! It’s such a blessing to be a part of something that’s on-going and ever-growing! No, it’s not TBI, but whatever it is, it’s so much better than we could have ever imagined. In fact and by faith, it’s all been in the making for a long time. (Who would have “thunk,” eh? Lol.) Alright, hope to see you there!
